The Effect of Different Endemic Cucurbita Rootstocks on Water Relation and Physiological Changes of Grafted Cucumber under Salinity Stress
Abstract:   (2524 Views)
There are many different studies on the increasing yield under salinity condition, there is limited study on the usage of endemic rootstocks for increasing the salinity resistance on the view of physiological changes which is result in these resistance was done.  For study the effect of different endemic rootstocks on water relation and physiological changes of grafted cucumber this study was designed. Rootstocks were Cucurbita pepo, Cucurbita maxima, Cucurbita moschata v.Astane ashrafiye, Lagenaria siceraria, Momorida charantia, Cucumis sativus v. Isfahan and self-grafted of cucumber and non-grafted as a control. After grafting salinity treatments with three levels of 0, 30 and 60 mM was applied. The experimental design was factorial based on CRD with 3 replicates. Results was shown that Tanbal and Isfahan cucumber with highest fresh and dry weight of root has the highest fresh and dry weight of shoot. The highest female flower number was in Isfahan cucumber rootstocks. The interactive effect of rootstock and salinity was show that   the latest emergence of female flower was seen in Tanbal, Karella and Isfahan cucumber. Transpiration was highest in Ghalyani and no salinity and the lowest in Isfahan cucumber without salinity. Mesophyll conductance was lowest in Isfahan umber in all salinity level and in Tanbal and Khoreshi decreased with increasing of salinity. Generally, within these endemic rootstocks was studied in this research, Isfahan cucumber and Tanbal has the better effect on growth in salinity stress although they have this effect from different mechanism.
Keywords: were Cucurbita pepo, Cucurbita maxima, Cucurbita moschat v.Astane ashrafiye, Lagenaria siceraria, Momorida charantia, Cucumis sativus v.Isfaha.
